Check Your Blind Spot, but not for too Long!
Have you had a close call or a collision to make you realize that traffic conditions can change in the blink of an eye? We created this YouTube video with front and interior dash cam footage as a visual reminder and a learning tool to illustrate just how fast traffic can come to a dead stop.
In this dual lens dashcam footage, we breakdown a play-by play of what exactly happened to lead to the rear-ending of a car with the car in front of it. We hope that this breakdown of what exactly went wrong to cause this rear-end car crash serves as a lesson in defensive driving!
Footage from the car's BlackVue DR550GW-2CH forward and interior-facing lenses helps show us exactly when and for how long the driver looks over his left shoulder to check his blind spot in order to change lanes to the left.
The important thing to keep in mind is that the driver is approaching a merging on-ramp with multiple vehicles about to merge into his current driving lane. At the exact moment that traffic slows down to allow for the merging cars, our driver decides to check his blind spot. As you can see, the driver looks over his shoulder and away from the road in front of him for about three seconds. That's all it took for the traffic in front of him to drastically slow down, and cause a rear-end accident.
Accidents can happen so quickly! Will you be caught off-guard? What lesson about merging lanes or checking your blind spot can you take away from watching this dash cam video?
