The dash cam video unveils previously unseen footage of a Portland man, Sidney Mecham, driving past barricades and coming dangerously close to hitting several people, including children, during the Rose Festival's Grand Floral Parade route in June. Mecham is facing felony charges for this alleged road rage incident. At the time of the incident, there was no clear reason for his aggressive driving towards children and families.
The 30-minute recording, presented as evidence in a preventative detention hearing, offers new insights into the events of June 10th. The dash cam footage captures Mecham growing increasingly inraged due to heavy traffic. As he heads towards the Motor Center in North Portland, where he intended to meet others, including his mother, he encounters numerous exits blocked off to divert traffic from the parade route.
The video then shows Mecham driving his truck over an embankment to get past a series of barricades before finding himself in the middle of the parade route, surrounded by spectators, several of which he almost hits with his truck.
Mecham, who was found to be driving with a suspended license and no insurance was arrested and is currently in jail awaiting trial. He has pleaded not guilty to 38 charges related to the alleged road rage incident, including felony charges of unlawful use of a weapon and attempting to elude police. No trial date has been set.
