BlackVue DR650S-2CH Dual Lens Dashcam | Subaru Forester w/ Eyesight

In this dashcam installation example photo gallery, we share the completed "hard-wired" installation pictures of the dual-lens, 1080p full HD BlackVue DR650S-2CH GPS, WiFi, and Cloud-capable dash cam, dual Power Magic Pros, and a WiFi hotspot "puck" in a 4th Generation (2014+) Subaru Forester (SJ) Touring model with Eyesight®.

Update: please note that the DR650S-2CH has been discontinued and replaced with the newer and better BlackVue DR750S-2CH, which looks almost identical to the 650 but now features dual 1080p both front and rear, rather than 1080p front 720p rear as with the DR650S-2CH.

Big thank you again to Mr. R for allowing outfit your Subie with the best dashcam defense available today!

The vehicle now protected with the "Dashcam Defense": 2017 Subaru Forester Touring sedan with Eyesight® Driver Assist Technology. The BlackVue product line is the only brand of dashcam we recommend when it comes to quality and reliability. You want your family to be safe while driving, protect your loved ones with a BlackVue dashcam today.

Looking in through the front windshield of the Forester, we see the front camera of the BlackVue DR650S-2CH / DR750S-2CH / DR900S-2CH dash cam system. The BlackVue camera fits almost completely in front of the rear-view mirror, so it does not block the drivers forward-looking line of sight. The front camera also fits perfectly between the two Subaru Eyesight® Driver Assist System (pre-collision) sensors, and placement in this location does not interfere with the system's safe operation at all.

Note: some Subarus do use a third imaging sensor that is located in the center of the windshield, where you see the BlackVue front-facing dashcam mounted currently. For vehicles that use this third sensor, the front camera of the BlackVue DR650S-2CH / DR750S-2CH / DR900S-2CH system would need to be mounted to either side of this center sensor, or on either side of the original two sensors higher up in the windshield.

From outside the drivers side door of the Forester, you can see that the small size of the DR650S-2CH / DR750S-2CH / DR900S-2CH allows the front camera to be completely hidden from the view of the occupants of the car. With a focus on safety, this is ideal as the camera doesn't block the drivers view in any way, as some less well designed dashcams might have a tendency to do.

From the perspective of the driver sitting in the front seat, it's almost impossible to spot the BlackVue dashcam in front of the rear view mirror.

Looking back towards the rear of the Forester, you can see the minuscule (about the size of a Chapstick) rear-facing camera. The power LED light on the rear camera can be disabled if do desired in the BlackVue settings menu.

From outside the rear end of this Subaru Forester, you won't see much that would indicate there is a camera here. The factory tint job does a great job of obscuring the rear-facing BlackVue camera lens.

With the rear hatch open, you can see how the DR650S-2CH / DR750S-2CH / DR900S-2CH rear camera fits in with this Forester.

Notice how our technicians route the rear camera power cable through existing wire conduits (tubing), in order to leave no visible wires and maintain full factory warranty. Our dashcam installations are always 100% reversible, leaving no permanent modifications to the vehicle.

Now looking in to the Forester from the passenger side, we can see the DR650S-2CH / DR750S-2CH / DR900S-2CH front camera and the two necessary cables (power from the vehicle, and power to / video from rear camera). Where possible, our technicians use the original interior wire covers and trim pieces to cleanly hide the wiring to the BlackVue dashcam as much as possible.

Looking at the glove box on the passenger side of the Forester, we see the last component of the setup: the BlackVue Power Magic Pro (battery discharge prevention device). The Power Magic Pro allows you to connect the BlackVue dashcam directly to your vehicle's electrical system, so that your cigarette lighter outlet stays free (you can still plug in your phone charger, for example), and this also enables you to power the dashcam while your car is parked and the engine is turned off (this is known as "parking mode", which the BlackVue dashcams excel at). Here the Power Magic Pro is installed in the glove box, to be out of sight but not out of reach.

This Subaru actually received two Power Magic Pro control boxes in the glove box: 1 for the camera system, and 1 for a mobile hotspot device. The mobile hotspot device (available from almost any major carrier such as AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, etc - please contact your cellular provider for more information) provides a WiFi signal inside the vehicle. The Cloud-capable BlackVue DR650S-2CH / DR750S-2CH / DR900S-2CH dashcam then pairs to this WiFi hotspot, and is then accessible from anywhere in the world! Connecting in a mobile hotspot device like this to a Power Magic Pro means the hotspot will almost never need to be touched; it will charge up when the engine is running, and then operate off of it's own internal battery when the car is parked and the engine is turned off.

The Verizon mobile hotspot device WiFi "puck" also mounted in the glove box. Provides a constant connection for the BlackVue dashcam to the outside world.

The Dashcam Store™ technicians use plug-and-play "add-a-circuit" fuse taps to connect the Power Magic Pro to the fuse box (one connection to a constant fuse slot, one connection to a switched fuse slot). The fuse taps are absolutely non-invasive and do not alter or damage any of your vehicle's wiring, so your factory warranty remains fully intact. This installation is 100% reversible, and leaves no trace should you choose to remove the dashcam from your vehicle (for instance if you are going to sell your vehicle) at a later date. These photos show the fuse taps connected to the Forester fuse box that is located down and to the left of the steering wheel.
