DOD Tech LS475W Dashcam Unboxing by The Dashcam Store™
Today we're unboxing the DOD Tech LS475W dashcam!
The LS475W is a high quality one channel dashcam for forward facing coverage featuring a surprising number of advanced features bundled in a small package.
Starting off, the box gives you a lot of information from the Sony STARVIS sensor to the 10 Hz GPS processor inside the unit. Unlike some other products we’ve looked at before, the LS475W’s packaging gives you a good look at the camera before you open it up, which is nice if you’re looking to get an idea of the scale of the camera and get a good look at the LCD screen on the back before committing. But since we’ve already committed, let’s dig in.
First off, the LS475W gives you Full HD 1080p resolution at 60 FPS, ranking it pretty high up on the dash cam cutting edge. The high quality 6G glass lens affords you 145 degrees of wide angle coverage. The unit itself is fairly small, not as low profile as some other models we’ve seen, but small enough to be relatively inconspicuous on your windshield. In hand, the unit feels nice and solid.
On the back, you have a set of tactile buttons for navigating menus or locking video files to the unit and a vivid 2.7” LCD screen. The buttons have a nice feel to them, and they’re marked with clear labels you can read from the driver’s seat. On the sides you’ve got a microSD card slot, a microUSB plug for power and data, and an HDMI port for direct video playback on a high definition display like a TV or monitor.
Inside, you have a built-in GPS processor that does GPS sampling at 10 times the rate of most other dashcams to capture your speed and location with superb accuracy. A cool feature of this camera is that it can actually alert you to upcoming speed cameras in your area. It’s not available everywhere though so you’ll have to refer to your documentation to check the service availability in your country, but the feature does work in the US. With a hardwired installation, the LS475W also supports a parking surveillance mode, which allows the camera to record events when your vehicle is parked using the built in G-sensor and motion detector.
One feature that really sets the DOD Tech products apart from others, however, is their low light recording capabilities. The LS475W has a large aperture f/1.6 lens and an ISO sensitivity of up to ISO 12800 for some truly superior low light and night video recording.
The LS475W keeps the accessories simple and minimal. Included with the unit, you get your microSD card and SD card adaptor, a windshield mount, power cable, and a quick user guide. If you want to track down the camera’s user manual, the user guide includes directions to the DOD website you can find more support materials for the unit. DOD also provides a free video player for playing back video and GPS files, compatible with both PCs and Macs.
We’ve included download links to the user manual and video player here:
