Sonya is a customer of The Dashcam Store, and we want to share her dash cam story. Sonya’s motivation to protect herself and her car with a dash cam is personal.
"I was hit by an 18-wheeler on the highway and I was in a 2-seater convertible with the top down."
It is terrifying to think of the damage that the impact of a truck of that size and traveling that speed is capable of, especially to a 2-door convertible with the top down. What could have happened if Sonya or the truck driver had been going 10 or 20 miles per hour faster? What would the outcome have been if the impact happened a few seconds earlier or a few seconds later?
The recovery process after a car accident is a long, winding road. Injuries can be treated in the emergency room immediately after a crash, but physical therapy, chronic pain management, post-traumatic stress, and the fear of getting behind the wheel again can be life-long challenges for a car accident survivor.
While I am grateful to be alive, my life will NEVER be the same and I will never own another car without a dual channel dash cam.
Without dash cam footage from Sonya nor the truck driver, Sonya has had to be a part of a long legal battle that, at the time of writing, is still in process. Feeling the frustration of being involved in a devastating accident and feeling as if the situation was out of her control, Sonya started researching ways to protect herself and her car moving forward and found The Dashcam Store. After reviewing her options, Sonya chose a BlackVue DR650S-2CH to be able to record in front of and behind her vehicle.
Sonya was ready to get behind the wheel once again after her accident knowing that each and every drive would be recorded with her new dash cam.
"I never want to be in another accident, but if the unfortunate happens I have a little piece of mind knowing there will be an accurate witness – video, audio, GPS, speed. You can’t rely on other drivers. They may not stop, wait long enough for the police or have an accurate story."
Sonya is acutely aware of the reckless drivers that surround her on the road daily now that she has a dash cam.
"I capture dangerous events on the road every day. EVERY DAY! The ones that scare me the most are the 18-wheelers running red lights on the Beltway service road, 18-wheelers driving while their loads are falling off the beds, stupid lane changes, reckless driving and road rage."
Now that Sonya has had such a positive experience with her dash cam, she wants to give her loved ones the gift of safety this holiday season.
Thank you for sharing your story with us, Sonya. We’re grateful that we get to do what we do in order to help drivers like you feel safer on the road with the protection of a dash cam.
